Why "darkhouse" Spearfishing?
Pike Spearing (also known as Darkhouse Spearing) is one of the oldest forms of fishing in and around the Great Lakes. Native Americans first started the practice over 400 years ago using bone and antler from deer and elk as spearing decoys. Because we are able to observe, pick and choose the pike that we want to harvest, spearing makes for a very effective method of fishing while conserving and protecting other species of fish. We are one of a few states where this method is legal, so we really enjoy pike spearing in Michigan.
